Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle, specific touch technique to enhance the flow and potency of the cerebro-spinal fluid, (CSF), held within the Craniosacral System (CSS) which consists of the cranium and spinal column. Also involved and brought to alignment to the mid-line of the body for more optimum function is ALL the multiple layering of the fascia which “webs” around the body. The Fascia is a very influential vast body matrix, connecting and binding around everything from muscle, bone, ligaments, tendons, glands to organs. The CSS is a semi-closed hydraulic system contained within a tough waterproof membrane, (the Dura Mater), which envelopes the brain and the spinal cord. This system is responsible for producing, circulating and re-absorbing the CSF.
The Dura is also known as the RTM – Reciprocal Tension Membrane. It acts like a shock absorber/ protection to the brain and spinal cord. The CSS has its’ own rhythmic pulse through the “filling” (flexion) and “emptying” (contraction) throughout the CSS which BCST Practitioner palpates with informed listening thus within this, assists it’s changes in potency, amplitude and rate. If there is any mis-alignment or trauma / dysfunction within the CSS and /or other corresponding bones, muscles and organs in the body, BCST can assist this as well. It’s healing scope is wide due to assisting the “inner core” of the body and it triggers the body’s own “innate wisdom” and self corrective / healing mechanisms. *BCST *scope can also be wide as it assist’s bringing homeostasis to the human body, which is ultimately, a naturally occuring phenomena. But, due to illness, trauma, accidents, etc the body can need assistance from a BCST Practitioner.
This is an Osteopathic research based technique, yet can assist not only fluid, tissue and bone re-expression and balance but it can also assist in aspects of *SOMATO EMOTIONAL RELEASE (SER)* which entails a deeper aspect of BCST*. SOMATO* being latin for “body”. Hence deeper ingrained trauma for the Sympathetic Nervous System can be still “locked” in Flight, Fight or Freeze. The body can need help to “re-progam” through the neural matrix back to the Parasympathetic Nervous System. The body governs the inherent treatment plan on the table, as symptoms arise and the body titrates trauma at it’s own pace and then it literally “reorganises” it’s body system’s accordingly. The body presents it’s patterning and individual needs and hence defines the “inherent treatment plan”. It will resource as needed to reorganize, re-potentize, re-balance, etc. The visceral (organs) can release the emotion held cellularly through *SER *which goes on to inner dialogue and dialogue outwardly with the practitioner, if needed and if it comes up in your treatment, guiding you through psycho-somatic release through the release of tissue memory. The organ’s are the seat of many emotions, e.g: the lungs hold grief, the liver hold anger, the kidney’s hold fear, etc…. hence the scope widens again to assist the root cause and hence release/ relief/ balancing of many ailments, e.g:- PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attack’s, etc.
I am very passionate about this modality! It is on-going learning through Neuroscience Research/ Discovery being updated so regularly with such incredible technology to study the human brain and whole body with advanced MRI’s and CAT Scan’s, etc. BCST has such an incredible scope in what it can treat with solid Osteopathic researched beginning’s dating back to the clinical and scientific finding’s of Dr William Sutherland , a renowned Osteopath back in the 18th Century! NB: I am also treating children and babies with BCST in Clinic with good results to assist optimum function/ health even after birth trauma, accidents, etc.
Please Check: www.bcst.info for further BCST description and for the P.A.C.T – Pacific Association of Craniosacral Therapists for the NZ and Australian Directory’s. P.A.C.T. assures that Registered Practitioner’s with them keep to a specific standard with on-going tutorial supervision, post-graduate study and seminars towards maintaining constant update of skills and knowledge within the BCST field of Practitioners.
