Create a Variable Product (i.e. colors)
Quick video overview
What is a variable product?
Variable products are a product type that lets you offer a set of variations on a product with control over prices, stock, image, and more for each variation. They can be used for a product like a T-Shirt which you can offer in different colours and sizes.
Here is a short idea of how this works: create new/edit old product → enable variation → add attribute → create variation and save → edit and save (optional)
Add a new product
Important: Original images you upload should be at least 800 x 800px or higher.
Go to Seller Dashboard → Product → Add New product
Navigate to vendor dashboard. Click on Products from the left menu and then Add New Products button from the top right corner. It will open a new window where you will be able to create a new product very easily with providing the most important details only.
The common information about a product are the title, price, description. Discount price is optional. You can even schedule discounts for a certain amount of time. You can enter a starting date and end date to apply automatic discounts to your product.
Both the categories and tags have to be created by the admin. The vendor can only select them from the frontend dashboard. Because allowing the vendors to create categories and tags might result into duplicates. If you cannot find a suitable category for your product please contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org and we will create it for you.
We have enable the option for multiple categories but we recommend the use of a singular category. According to Google Webmaster Guidelines and other SEO and UX best practices, it is recommended to have only one category assigned to a product. If you need to show your products based on multiple factors or for searching or sorting feature, you can use tags.
With ShopLocally Marketplace, vendors are be able to create new product tags from vendor dashboard. Click on Vendor Dashboard>Product>Add New Product. Under the Select Product Tags field, add a tag (please check your spelling) and Press Enter. The word or phrase will be added as a separate tag. Existing tags will load as you start typing.
When you are done, click on Create Product to open the next configuration window or click on Create & Add New to setup the basic information of your next product.
Selecting Product Type – Variable Product
In this stage, select which type of product you are creating. Select Variable from the Product Type drop-down menu. Now, provide product category and tags so that your customer can easily find your product from your store.
Now scroll down to the Attribute and Variation section from where you can manage different variations and attributes for your variable product.
Use Preset Attributes (color and/or size)
We have created two sets of attributes for color options and sizes. While you can create your custom attributes (i.e. material) we would like to ask you to contact us first as we may create a “global” attribute that can also be used for other vendors. If this is the case please contact us via email@example.com and we will get back to you within hours.
To use a preset attribute click on the dropdown → select color or size → add attribute → create variation and save → edit and save (optional) click on the dropdown and select color or sizeYou can create a new attribute by selecting Custom Attribute and click on the Add attribute button. Now, provide the attribute Name and their values. You can create more values by entering a new value.
Your interface will expand and will look like the screenshot below. Select Used for variations (1) → choose some values (2) or click on Select All → click on Save Attribute (3)
Now, to create new variations of your product from the chosen value (Color), select Create variations from all attributes. You can also create single variables according to your requirements by selecting Add variation option. After choosing your option, click on the Go button and it will generate variations from your attributes automatically.
Edit and Save Variations
From the screenshot below, you can see that Shoplocally Marketplace has generated all the possible variations for your product. In this case; Black, Green and Red. Now, you can edit generated variations according to your requirements. Choose your default Color (1) and click on the dropdown of each color (2) to start configuring the details.
For a good setup with stock management of each product variation we recommend that you Select Manage Stock (1) → set Regular price (2) → define Stock quantity (3). You also might want to write a description for your variation if necessary but these three setting are good to get started. Repeat the process for all variations (i.e; Green and Red T-Shirts). After you are done with editing the variables, you can save the variation by clicking on Save variations button.
Now, you can include any discount options for your product. Besides that, you can include other options. There are options including product status, visibility, purchase note and product reviews. After completing all of the steps, click on the Save Product button to create your variable product and simply wait for us to review and approve your product.
